How do all Chinese places taste the same?! Seriously, I can go to any Chinese restaurant, anywhere in America -even podunk little towns- and it's all the same food. Is it the MSG in it?! It's more uniform in taste and consistency then McDonald's! Baffling. In any case, my lunch was good. I mean, I knew exactly what it would taste like since I had Chinese before. But it was still pleasant to eat. I had shrimp and veggie with white rice in white sauce. Nondescript "white sauce". What's in "white sauce" anyway? Who knows. So many questions about Chinese food. The only difference is that while they don't provide soup with a carry out meal I got two crab cheese Rangoons instead, which was just fine by me.

My family and I decided to come by here for dinner. They had a fair number of customers, but the place was not crowded. I enjoyed the atmosphere even though the layout is like any other generic asian restaurant. 9/27/14 (Saturday 7:30-8:30pm) This restaurant, having been here quite a while now, still is well kept together and clean. The food has maintained it's quality as well. We ordered 3 plates and a soup for the three of us. Sizzling Rice Soup: This was definitely yummy! A savory soup hot and homely. Each sip gives a nice rice crunch and wholesome vegetables. Recommended! Onion Shrimp: I this this is one of my favorites as well, though quite pricey ($24) compared to the other dishes. I love when shrimp is fried with the shell on because it traps the flavors within it for a delicious bite every time. (easy to peel) Hunan Beef: This was good, a bit of spice to it. Beef with Black Mushroom: Also good, I enjoyed the bamboo and crisp pea pods that were part of this dish! Mushroom is always good too! Fungi for the win! Total: $62.12 + tip Overall, very enjoyable dinner with a wide selection of dishes to order. I would say there are definitely some authentic dishes here (not sweet and sour chicken/orange chicken, etc.) But if you like those, they have them too. Service was fast and food was at the perfect temperature.

Always my family's first choice of cheap Chinese take out. We've always had really great service and have always been impressed. You can tell Golden Wok goes above and beyond. I've never dined in, but with every take out order they've included crab rangoons (or crab cheese), cookies with special sauce, and tea packets. The food has been delicious, and I've never been disappointed!

This is a great chinese restaurant!! Definitely recommend it. Dine in or take out you can't go wrong. Big menu with lots of options. Friendly servers. Pretty nice interior as well. Probably the best Chinese food in the GR area!!

+$33 for Chinese take out?!? In the words of John McEnroe, "You cannot be serious!!!" Absolutely absurd. Oh and just so you know, that's for general tsos, lo mein, and dumplings. Unreal!!

Many Chinese restaurants have a really spartan atmosphere, often looking like a total dive. This was pretty nice inside. I got my laughs hearing the phrase "chicken flied lice" at least 10 times by a certain waitress trying to describe the menu to an inept family of dullards that must not have ever frequented a Chinese restaurant or they were just stupid. I felt like I was in a Benny Hill sketch, but I digress. As someone else pointed out, the added vegetables in the egg drop soup was a nice touch. I had #86, which was some kind of beef dish. I'm pretty sure it was #86, but it was definitely a beef dish, but it could have been Maine Coon Cat. Whatever it was, it was tender and perfectly prepared. The place mats at every Chinese restaurant have always identified me as a "sheep" according to my birth year, this place's place mats said I was a "goat," so I'm unsure of my identity now. This place was very clean and has excellent hot tea, so I'll be back. For an alternative to the all-too-common Chinese buffet, this is a great place to go.

First Wok, Golden Wok, Magic Wok!! If you didn't know, all of these restaurants are owned by the same family. Golden Wok is located on the East Beltline and is managed by the youngest brother of the family. He's SUPER nice. Now that you have a little history on these three, let's talk specifically about Golden Wok. This place is located in a strip of other businesses. When you walk in, there is a showcases of an assortment of Chinese goodies that is available for purchase. The layout of the room is quite confusing as most restaurants are formatted to be a one room display. This place has separate rooms that aren't entirely closed off from one another but you won't be able to stand at one end to see the entire restaurant. I guess this is good because it gives you your own privacy if needed. Service is ok, but you can't expect a lot from Chinese restaurants as they are usually the in-and-out type of place. The food is good for a typical Chinese menu. It comes out hot off the stove and you can't every go wrong with any dish you get. I especially love the eggrolls as it is filled with so much veggies. The egg drop soup is one of my favs as it is filled with not just eggs but delicious veggies as well. The cook is known to us as we always try to talk to the cooks to thank them for such a great meal. He was so nice and friendly to his customers. It's great to see the involvement of the chefs to make sure that he cares about what he serves to others. Seeing that this restaurant is owned by the same family members, I believe it is safe to safe that the food is the same at all locations with different names. I sincerely think this particular location serves their food with much more "heart".

I placed a take-out order of General Tso's chicken, Hot and Sour Soup, and an Eggroll. Everything was very delicious. The portion of the meal was huge, and the soup was bigger than you would normally get at most other chinese restaurants (Both were so big that I was able to save most of both for another meal.) Everything was some of the best that I have had. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants great chinese food on this end of town.

Stopped in tonight with my mom tonight and had some of the best Chinese we've ever tasted in GR. We both had hot and sour soup, which was very peppery, not overly-thick with cornstarch, and had a sour aftertaste that was almost lime-y. Very good and fresh. Next came egg rolls. Probably the best egg rolls we have ever had anywhere. Crunchy on the outside, but not greasy, perfectly golden, and stuffed with cabbage, pork, and shrimp. For entrees, we had the sizzling tan pan beef and hunan chicken. Both were perfectly cooked. Neither meat nor veggies were overdone. We wished the hunan chicken could have been a bit more spicy but we got some chili oil upon request to mix in. The chicken and beef were both SO tender! Our waiter was extremely prompt and checked in with us often to make sure we were satisfied with the meal. On our way out, the owner was also interested to hear our feedback. They really seem to care about pleasing their customers. We saved 15% using a coupon from their website, which is valid for dine-in or carry-out dinner orders. Even without the coupon, prices were extremely reasonable for the quality and quantity of food provided. We will be back!

Had a great dish of almond chicken although it was light on the actual chicken. Nice staff and laid back atmosphere.

Great take out. I've never eaten in but I can see they take pride in maintaining a clean establishment. They Sesame Chicken has a light flaky tempura batter similar to yummy wok in kentwood (personal fav in GR area). They also put a good amount of cream cheese in the Crab Rangoon! Only reason I didn't put 5 stars is because you have the 1 size to buy... HUGE QT. Containers.

I can only review based on General Taos Chicken, Crab Rangoons and their sweet and sour sauce....all we just ok....not bad...not good....just general ok Chinese...still missing my Yen Ching in Grand Rapids....nothing I have tried has filled their void.

One of my favorite places in town...what a disappointment it was when my son bit into a STAPLE! Waitress was very apologetic. 2 minutes later, i pulled a HAIR out of my mouth...again waitress was apologetic and owner REFUSED to see us and made us pay for our meals that were only half consumed. Too many chinese joints in this zip code to allow them to treat my guests and I like garbage!

As far as Chinese food in the Grand Rapids area goes, Golden Wok has to be on the top of your list. Always fast and friendly services with TONS of choices. Recommend them to anyone looking for a Chinese Food fix

Well I must say Golden is hitting the mark. Everything was prepared with care, and core Chinese American items: egg roll, egg drop soup, General's Chicken, and Beef Fried Rice, were all nailed and presented well. Finally, I want to add our waitress was really warm, and encouraging. As a father of 5 children(11,9,2,1,4mos.)this goes a long way to making my wife and I want to come back. We will.

We found this place through Yelp after the number of good Chinese restaurants in GR dwindled to just a few. The food is prepared well and definitely a cut above what you find elsewhere. The sesame chicken is lightly breaded and they don't skimp on the cheese in their crab cheese. Their sizzling rice soup (something you don't find on many menus) is amazing.

I have been here twice now on Sundays and its the only time to go as you get free soup and an egg roll. Their hot and sour soup is the best I have had and their General Chicken is extra crispy and Fresh. The service is very friendly and you get a hefty portion. You will most likely have some to take home.

Golden Wok is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. Their hot and sour soup is the best I've ever had. The customer service is always very friendly and extremely fast.

Go here on Sunday. You get free soup and an egg roll when you order fried rice. The taste of the food is good if not excellent.

I went in before class to get some dinner. I ordered Orange chicken and a side of fried rice. The order was done in 10 minutes. Very friendly staff and as one other reviewer pointed out very clean bathroom. The fried rice was very good and the orange chicken was good but I have had better. Over all very good meal for about $16.

Very good food. We had the won ton soup, mongolian beef, and the steamed dumplings. $22 carryout and fed two of us with leftovers. I will be going back!

I hate to be the only one with something negative to say, however, this place gave me nothing to brag or be nice about. I'm in the Grand Rapids area because of training and after reading the reviews about this place I stopped in. I found the food to be overpriced and not that great as far as taste. I ordered general chicken but I wanted shrimp fried rice with my meal. Instead of there being a side order price or an extra fee for the shrimp, I was charged for a full order of shrimp fried rice! When I asked the guy why it was so expensive, he immediately got an attitude! Against my better judgement I paid for this. I was not impressed with the rice at all except for the large shrimp! Maybe that's why it's 7.75 an order. In addition to this, I finished my general chicken in ONE sitting! That NEVER happens. The portions are the smallest I've ever seen from a Chinese food place. Very disappointing...15 bucks for nothing.

This is going to sound odd starting off a restaurant review, but its the first thing I think of when I go here. This establishment has the cleanest restroom I've ever been in. It always smells like they just cleaned it before I walked in. The basins sparkle as well as all the other fixtures. The reason I mention this is because if they care that much about a bathrooms cleanliness, the kitchen has to be clean too. This place is within walking distance to work and we go often. The food is always hot and the staff is always friendly. It is your typical Americanized Chinese food, but that doesn't mean it isn't tasty. You get a lot of food for the price. You get soup, tea, egg roll, crab cheese or chicken wing, with your entree. All for under $7. Always a nice visit.

Tried this place based on Yelp reviews. Very happy! The food was some of the best Chinese we've had in the Grand Rapids area in the past few years. The staff were excellent. The restaurant is very clean and the atmosphere is nice. Will be coming back again and again in the future. They have a nice dining area or you can take out.

I've eaten here several times as it is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Grand Rapids. I don't eat in too often, so I can't really speak about the service. I will typically order take-out. Regardless, the food is good.

While not exotic in terms of Chinese fare, it is well prepared and very tasty. The Pot Stickers are quite good. General Tso chicken is also a highlight. Props on the 'not out of a can' Sweet & Sour sauce as well. Glad to have them nearby the house for take-out. Staff is always pleasant. Also worth noting, they seldom if ever mess up a phone order, kinda rare in the world of take-out.

I've only eaten here a couple of times, and decided today on my way back to the office to swing by and grab a carryout. Not all Chinese food is created equal, so when I ordered pork chop suey I was a bit confused when they asked me if I wanted steamed rice or fried rice. I've always though of chop suey over white rice, so that's what I ordered. The chop suey at Golden Wok has a LOT of veggies in it, which is good, but not what I was necessarily expecting. I did enjoy my meal and it was more than enough so I'll be eating it for lunch tomorrow as well.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
